Terms of Service

Last updated October 6, 2026

These Terms govern your use of StackStory (the "Service"), operated by StackStory ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

1. What StackStory does

StackStory prints ship receipts: summaries of what a developer has shipped, counted from public GitHub data and live checks of their websites. Builders can claim their receipt to verify it, prove the domains and clients behind their live products, and join an opt-in leaderboard.

2. Accounts and claims

  • You sign in with GitHub. You may only claim the GitHub account that is yours.
  • You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your GitHub account secure.
  • You must be at least 16 and able to agree to these Terms.

3. Receipts

  • Receipts are counted automatically and can be incomplete or wrong. For example, private work isn't counted, and AI co-writing is only detected when commits say so. A receipt is a summary, not an endorsement, a reference or a background check.
  • Every receipt has a number anyone can check on StackStory. Don't edit a receipt and present it as genuine.
  • The owner of a GitHub account can hide its receipt at any time, as described in our Privacy Policy.

4. Proofs

A proof says what we checked and when: commit share in a repository, a website that responded, a domain record, or a confirmation from the person who clicked the link we emailed. It doesn't vouch for the quality of the work or for anything beyond what was checked. You're responsible for the details you give us, such as who your client was.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Claim, or try to claim, an account that isn't yours, or impersonate anyone.
  • Name someone as your client who wasn't, or pressure a client to confirm a project.
  • Game rankings or proofs, for example with generated commits or websites made only to pass a check.
  • Use receipts or the leaderboard to harass, spam or discriminate against anyone.
  • Scrape the Service, print receipts in bulk, or get around its rate limits.
  • Use the Service for anything illegal or that infringes someone else's rights.

6. Pricing

StackStory is free to use today. If we add paid features, we'll announce them and give notice before anything you use changes.

7. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available, but don't guarantee uninterrupted access. Features may change as the product evolves.

8. Ending your use

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend accounts or remove claims or proofs that break these Terms, with notice where reasonably possible.

9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We're not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including decisions made on the basis of a receipt or a proof.

10. Changes to these Terms

We'll update the date at the top of this page when these Terms change. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
